Gender-nonconformism and homelessness

This is a very interesting interview about the status of transgender people in the USA. It is combined with some incredibly alarming statistics about the overwhelming social and economic deprivation experienced by transgender people.  Auckland Council has only recently started collecting data on transgender homelessness.[1] However, focusing on the experiences of transgender people at the council level may not be enough to solve the systemic inequalities they experience. A central-government approach to homeless policy might be better equipped to examine the ways in which systems exclude transgender people in New Zealand from the standard of living experienced by the cisgendered.
