About

The research presented on this site reflects work undertaken for a Master in Public Policy, where work is presented here from the course POLICY 701 and research undertaken for a thesis.

The work provides an overview of the health sector, where it considers a range of factors which affect the way the sector is designed. This work aims to provide an in-depth understanding of why things work the way they do. This knowledge is important for those involved in the sector, as understanding how and why the sector operates the way it does allows work done within it to be much more effective.

The research into the structural design of the health sector is done through the use of four case studies. Pharmac, the District Health Board (DHB) system, the New Zealand Primary Health Care Strategy (NZPHCS) and the Maori Health Strategy (MHS). The lessons learnt from each of these cases provides the foundation for conclusions to be drawn about structural design at a more general level.
