This Study

This report undertakes a gender and socio-economic impact analysis to focus on the ways in which institutional arrangements regarding paid sick leave affect different segments of the population.  This approach expands on the framework of gender analysis to include other demographic indicators such as one’s marital and socio-economic status.  Consideration is given to social equity because all people should be treated with dignity as this is part of what builds a good society and promotes human flourishing.[1]

The described framework is the preferred approach  as it adds to the debate on paid sick leave legislation and builds on other analytical work that has already been completed using comparative institutional analysis and cost benefit analysis both of which result in recommending the passage of a job-protected paid sick leave policy.  Therefore, this approach allows for an alternative perspective through which to view the issue.
