‘In 1996 there were 19,230 notifications to the Children and Young Persons service for alleged physical/sexual abuse (44 percent) and emotional abuse (56 percent). However, it is likely that only a minority of child abuse cases get referred to in this way[1]’.
‘In 2005 there were more than 59,000 notifications recorded at CYFs, and of these nearly 80 percent required CYFs to take further action[2]’.
