‘In 1996 there were 19,230 notifications to the Children and Young Persons service for alleged physical/sexual abuse (44 percent) and emotional abuse (56 percent). However, it is likely that only a minority of child abuse cases get referred to in this way’.
‘In 2005 there were more than 59,000 notifications recorded at CYFs, and of these nearly 80 percent required CYFs to take further action’.
