ACC, or Accident Compensation Corporation, is a Crown organisation run by the government, which provides accident compensation and related services for all injured people in New Zealand. The ACC scheme applies to everyone: workers, non-earners, students, retired people, children, and visitors. Regardless of when or where somebody is injured, whether at work, at home, in the playground or in a traffic accident, they are eligible to be covered by ACC, which pays for their medical treatment and rehabilitation, and provides earnings related compensation for time spent off work. ACC works on a ‘no-fault’ basis, so it does not matter who is to blame for the accident.
